Interesting, I wonder if maybe they tried to host the frogspawn, got stung and were not used to it/didn't like it :-/. You can always coax them away from the heater, or at least try lol. Just scare them away from it every time they get near it. They may eventually learn that it is not a safe item to host, and find something else :).

    Good luck.

    The spots were pre-frogspawn.

I guess we shall see. If i am lucky enough to get a photo or two - i will certainly post them for more opinions.

    Thanks :)

No problem :). As long as they are eating/swimming normally and don't succumb to any lacerations that could lead to infections, I wouldn't worry to much. But be cautious as well. I've never really seen a fish get burnt by a heater before, so this would be a first.

I had to use some plastic gutter mesh from home depot at the tops of my overflows to keep my clown gobies from going into the overflows. Its very flexible and you could make a cylinder shape to go around your heater and still have flow.Just make sure there are no spaces big enough for any tank inhabitants to get in between and get cooked.

Or just point a power head right at it at close proximity so they dont like it there anymore and the heater will still do its job.

My clowns host the heater too! My heater is safe to touch on the upper 1/2 of it and the clowns tend to stay on that part but at night sometimes I'll find them floating on the surface right next to the heater, weirdest thing. First time freaked me out lol. I'm guessing they wouldn't touch it if it was burning them, tho sometimes you never know.

I have a Rena SmartHeater if you're curious.
