I added a couple of inches to me detritus trap :) (was about 2 inches now about 4) about 3 weeks ago. i have noticed a steady decline in nitrates but didn't know if it was from good water changes (did 2 10% in the last 3 weeks) or from the DSB. i was looking at the substrate today, noticed a lot of small air bubbles about an inch deep up against the glass. i am assuming that this is N03 converted into nitrogen gas. at first i though that it was just micro bubbles from my HOB skimmer but 1 in is to deep for that.

hopefully with some good sand bed maint. and an RO/DI unit next month i'll be ready for some anthozoa action...

Most of the sand was in the tank when i got it (used from someone moving out of the country). i added a large bag, i think it was 15 pounds of plain argonite sand, and one 5 pound bag of that carib sea live sand stuff, probably didn't do much but who knows
