yea i would say i got really lucky with mine but i do stress that most do not eat frozen foods. one thing you could do is find out what time the store feeds there fish and show up at feeding time this goes for any type of fish. then you can see for yourself on how the fish might do when you take it home.

If anyone is in the chicago area we ahve some great stores that i purchase from and some of the reasons i do are: i have heard the staff refuse to sell incompatable fish.
If there is a feeding issue i.e. what the animal eats or how well they will hold the fish for you until the next feeding and demo the feeding for you.
And finally they take an interest to the customers tank and will help even on just the "shopping around" days.
I guess the point i am trying to make in this whole ramble is make sure the animal is feeding before bringing it home and watch it eat. If the lfs can't make it eat proceed with extreme caution and don't buy the its too new to the store to eat line.
I love my Mandrian but passed on many for the reasons listed above.

    Scott,

Since you have had a considerable amount of experience with moorish idols, why don't you start a thread on these awesome fish. TIA

:'( i have bad news one of the 2 stores that i get fish from has closed. this store took care of there fish, quarenteened them before sale, sold awesome fresh lr, and offered (correct) advice and help if people needed it. also if there was a problem with a fish they would take it qteen it and try to find out what the problem is or replace the fish without any xtra charge. but a local pet store started there own small chain they have like 4 stores now and moved in the same area. there just into it for the money and have undersold this guy and put him out of business, when i started out i went to this pet store and with the help i got lost a couple hundred dollars and they didnt know why until i got on the internet and elsewhere to by fish. its just sad another business owner that was dedicated to the hobby not the money gone, i just hope they dont push my other store out or i will be driving even further for my fish.

I would have to vote for Mandarin Goby for favorite fish. I have loved them since the first time I saw one. I didn't realize they were considered a difficult fish to keep. I have had two and only lost the first one because of salinity tester going to pot on me. I have a 45g that has been setup for about 5 years. Going to be upgrading it to a 90g soon.
