my feather duster lost its feather?

is this normal. the feather is just floating around my tank. I think the worm is still in the tube but not sure. Do they shed their feathers?

 

As far as I know they only lose their crown when it is damaged or when they are being constantly picked on.

 

They will shed it if frightened or sometimes to spawn. Mine popped out the other end once and then came back out the top. If the worm is still in there it should grow a new one.

 

I've experienced the spawn with my coco worm. Scared me at first but then again it made sense to lose it's crown. Don't want to eat your own babies! ;D

 

+1 on Robman, will take a couple of weeks or so but will be back in all of its glory.

 

high n03/poor water quality will cause them to lose feathers too. I wouldn't be to considered with just one tho.

 

should i take out the feather or what? I think one of my acans tried to munch on a piece?

 

take feathers out of water. my FD did that 1 month ago.. now it has a small crown growing back.. only reason It popped it crown, was from me trying to move it from behind my rock wall to front of tank where it could be visible. it got pissed and popped.. I just decide to leave it alone and its coming back.. I love having stuff in the tank you cant even see.. ie feather duster/sally lightfoot crab/corals etc..
