I just bought a peppermint shrimp yesterday and last night, I was looking for him and found him stuck to the intake of my powerhead. He was DOA. I just replaced the grate intake with a smaller intake to hopefully prevent future accidents. I am very sad, :-[

Could always put foam covers on the intakes. It works two ways: Prevents fish/inverts from being pulled into it, and also acts as a bit of a filter making sure that any detritus/algae that gets pulled towards it, doesn't get propelled across your tank.

thats what i have on mine and all 4 of my powerheads in the tank. i clean them out once a week along with my filter. and its like 4 times the mechanical filteration. and nothin has got caught yet :)
oh sorry for you loss by the way.
    oh oh oh.
my peppermint shrimps climb to the top of my rocks at night and they surve the current for hours just floating then they get down. and then climb up to the powerheads and sit there for a while also (but i have the foam so they dont get stuck) its like a nightly ritual.

You sure it wasn't his molt? Everytime either of my shrimp molt it always scares me because it looks exactly like the shrimp. The shrimp usually hides out for a few days while he hardens up.

I was going to say the same thing....it might not be gone. Look in your rock work very carefully.

I agree with jcdillin, many ppl confuse the discarded shell as a DOA. Keep checking around, he might show up 1-2 days later. Luna

Peppermints seem to be the "fragile" of the shrimps we like to see in out tanks...They must be really sensitive to environment change or really "tasty."

Just molt is good thought...don't give up yet...

    Good Luck.
