I'm getting ready to set up my own business soon. However, in researching this, there's a good place to start. Look for a local small business development center. They are a federal funded organization dedicated to helping small business owners. If you provide a rough business plan, they will provide a free lawyer to set up an llc or similar(well up to $250) which is enough for a basic llc/sole proprietorship, and also help you with getting set up, including money. Its really made the process a lot less scary for me, knowing there's someone there to tell you, that's dumb!lol.
