I am not an easy contributor to disagree with, I am correct. This hobby is upside down with mass produced items sold with no regard to the hobbyist. A dollar less now will cost you $ 50.. more in the long run. I have now problem with your somewhat polite response. Could you please take a moment and view the videos in the above link?

I like to bump up my phosphates when they drop below 8 ppb (billion!)and reduce them when over 18 ppb. Hard corals require a little phosphate to grow they're skeletal structure. A little too much phosphates stains them cutting off light and choking them.

If you want to have serious fish or even corals only early you can by dialing the amount of bioplastic carbon released with the reef dynamics reactor. Reef Dynamics is not a B.$. manufacturer. Watch the video and see how you can eliminate risk and stock your tank as much as the other equipment will take.

Don't forget what Confucius say: "Buying for peanuts is for monkeys."

    With all due respect walt, I have a few questions;

When you say flatly that you are right and there is no need to disagree with you, my alarm goes up, as I have seen very few hard fast rules in this hobby that work for EVERY tank. Each tank is its own beast and like its own things. You then go on to suggest to add "as many fish as the other equipment will take" which is honestly one of the only rules I do think applies to all tanks. DO NOT OVERSTOCK, unless ya do have a HUGE system and TONS of money and expertise. Or don;t mind constantly buying new fish to replace the dead ones.

But my main issue is, you are probably very much right and more knowledgale than a lot of folks on here about phosphate levels, biopellets and their uses. HOWEVER, prob 95% of reefers on here asking this question aren't going to be able or willing to maintain a phosphate level in the vary narrow margin you say we need too. Nor pay for the testing equipment to do so. While I agree that you are probably 100% right in what you say, its prob unrealistic to ask of us average Joe reefers. And prob unrealistic to ask of someone new to the hobby, but prob something left as a polite suggestion to aspire too and want in the future.

I thank you for the education on this, it is something i am now reading up on, however, as i have been guilty of as well, recently mind you, very few things are black and white in this hobby, and def not this! Just read a GFO/carbon vs biopellet thread.lol

    Thanks

I suggest no more livestock until you buy your backup power system as per crisis when you are not home. Tunze makes a safety switch for their electronic controlled pumps. Get a big controllabl Turbelle pump (if you got the cash) or the silence DC return pump then hook up secondary line to a sealed deep cycle car battery or whatever if you run the power lines to the garage. There is a lot more ground to cover step by step if you can help me with more Karma.

    Best Regards,

I'm confused walt, ya argue to not add all the fish, then to add this and add anything they want, then suggest a massive battery backup system, then ask for karma to get more help. I thought the def of karma was to do something nice for someone without thought of a reward, just to be nice, and that you in return would get something nice back. Asking for it seems anti karma. IMO

Just curoius to this thought process.

Very nice and insightful response thank you. I am well educated but I work driving a forklift in a frozen food production facility (-20F) with 1000 very fine production and warehouse workers many of which are in a culture shock as being new to factory work and new to this country. My life's calling is to help people make the best of their assimilation of job skills and life challenges. After 10 yrs of this my policy of this massive undertaking is not to open my mouth unless it is to stop something bad before it happens. Capice?
Viewers of this mssg board must understand what they are getting into. I try to keep my advice to a bare minimum. I will work for Karma.
I am a slow typist, this is work.

    Very Finest Regards To You.

P.S. The Hanna Ultra Low marine Phosphate Checker is $50.00 from our sponsors.

There is nothing massive about a 6 V DC motor backup switched to a car battery. Loosing your community is much more expensive. What are you doing for back-up? Answer please.

Yes, there is definitely more out there than what you know about. Change that and watch the video:

Bio Pellet Reactor for 135 gallon Systems

Regarding Karma requests, I need to know where I'm at with the viewers.

P.S. What are you doing for power back-up?

    Regards

Well for power back up, I have a generator.

And I'm starting to get annoyed at your condescending attitude while blatantly pushing a very specific product while not just reactors in general. There are PLENTY of people running perfectly healthy tanks with no reactors. The idea that you must have one of these is absurd. I can also point you to many threads where reactors have crashed tanks.

The fact that you are supposed to run the factor output through the skimmer before introducing to the tank makes me even more weary. I'm not anti this, but i just feel keeping your tank stocked properly, with regular WC;s, and dosing if need be eliminates the absolute need for this. That being said, I have a reactor and biopellets ready to go if need be.

I don't like straight output type reactors. They will burn your corals as they suddenly cause a massive depletion of Phosphate and nitrate. I would not mix too many fish and corals, or start a new tank aggressively without
the system described and weekly monitoring with the tester described. You don't need much if any water changes and never dosing if you strike a balance of knowledge, good equipment and livestock (in that order.)
