I just made this in MS Paint

This is for a 120G Corner Flow reef tank.

Im new at the sump/refug thing. If you see any need for change please let me know. I never used a sump before so this would be my first one.

I want to buy a 29 gallon or a bigger tank and use acrylic to make the sump/refuge. Guess i could use all acrylic but im afraid it would leak if the outer corners are not properly done.

The tank is 32" high and 48" long
    The skimmer is 20" high

If you know of a better design or if my design sucks please let me know:)

Nice. I like that you have raw water going to the skimmer. Good design.

Looks good, but I would install another ball valve after the T that brings water to the refugium. You may not get enough flow to the refugium. By closing the ball valve( a little ), you will force water to the refug. Just a thought. Luna

I hope I can make this easy to understand. This is just things I have experienced with using valves and T's. If you will notice the pic has A, B, & C on it so I will refer to them as flow in and out...OK ;D

If you only want to use one valve on the fuge side which I recommend then you need to either bring display tank water in A then out B to sump and C to fuge with valve on it. Or Bring it in B out to C for fuge with valve and A will be to sump.
If you bring the water from tank into B then out C to sump and it has to turn 90 degrees for the fuge with a valve in line then it is hard to keep a constant slow flow.

You want to keep from having a valve inline to the sump that you are partly closing to regulate flow. If something gets in there like snails etc and get lodged and clogs up then you are going to have water on the floor.

Other then that you plans look good. You will feel nice once it's done and you can stand back and see something you have created.

I just thought about that right before i posted the picture.

If there is not vavle there i don't see how water could go into refugium.

    Thanks.:)

I got it. It would be easier to direct the water that way.

    Thanks.

This this what you mean. I probably will not have the second 90 degree turn on the overflow line but other than that.

Yep that is what I was talking about. I just hate to have a half closed valve inline on a return because you never know what will get caught in there and stop flow. Been there...done that. :(

Yup, thats it. Now you'll have controlable flow going to sump/refug. Luna
