I'm about to purchase some clown fish myself. Is it better to buy a pair?

if you buy two very small clowns one will become the dominate female and be the head while the smaller male is not. they do better in pairs ime they seem to get lonely in a tank by themselves. at least a couple different fish to put in if not a pair

Congrats on the new additions!!! I feed mine frozen brine and frozen blood worms. Some days they get just one kind, some days they get one then the other at a different time and sometimes I mix them both for one feeding. They love the variety! They either get fed once or twice a day depending on my work schedule. If I work where I can't feed them twice then I feed them just a little more extra in intervals where they can pick most of it off. Gman lives on the bottom so he usually gets what falls to the sand bed and doesn't complain. ;D

I suggest a pair. They seem way more happy and plus its just funny to watch them mess around with each other. Feeding time: Clyde will go for the food, Bonnie will nudge him on the side if she wants it then he will nudge her back and by that time Gman picks it off. They don't hurt each other but is very comical :)

Thanks for the input guys and gals! Another question. I just ordered some powerheads. 2 - 1050gph for my 40g. Would it be ok to put the powerheads in after I put the clown fish in or will that cause them any stress?
