    Hello Everyone,

I will be putting up a small journal on my saltwater tank setup. I will be doing the setup this week and will be posting my progress on this site for your help as well as to inform people on how to go about a basic setup without a sump.

I started this all after going to Hawaii and seeing all of the underwater life there and it sparked a flame that started me on this venture.

First off I will say I am by no means a expert on this. I have never done a SWT only a few 10-15 gallon freash water tanks in my life.

I got my tank from a family member who was letting it sit in thier garage for over 5 years.

    Here is a pic...

I started with just cleaning out it extreamly well, as well as my mind let me without going complete nutts.

    Next step Stand!@!@!

220 dollars in wood and 16 hours of screaming cursing and ALOT of help from my Fiance' father we put together a stand made from 2x4's and some finish boards (All Pine).

All this talk but what about the picture???

Not bad if I say so myself :p "Thanks Ray"

Ok on with it I stained it somthing that did not look like the color on the can...(Ok it might have been cause it was my first time staining anything)

    Picture of corse

Then I setup the tank with power heads and filled with water to test equipment, (also used glass spray paint on back to give it the all black cave look)

I expect my base rock to be here soon and will be aquascaping my tank and starting the cycle process with only 1-2 peices of live rock along with 50/50 live/dry sand.

I hope to have good sucess without a full sump and just using a protein skimmer and a small HOB filter with alot of live rock with good water movement.

    Cheers,

    Beamerhack

I still dont know, I think it is a 75 gallon but with the angles it is not that easy math.

Congratulations on deciding to go salt. Be prepared to find yourself sitting and staring at the tank for indefinite amounts of time.
