You got a stag in the DT ol Grey Beard?

You need some macro algae in that sump IMO. Nice man groves....from John? Nice progress my friend.

Nice looks good. From what I can see, I have the same type of overflow. Been working on making it quieter but other than that it works awesome. Noise probably doesn't matter too much for you though being that it's in a pet shop. May want to toss a mesh type thing on the drain pipe to keep any big stuff out. (Couldn't tell if there was one, just an idea.)

Speaking of that tang you have, I've been thinking about getting one because they are a bit on the smaller side for tangs and I have a 55 gallon as well. Are they good with corals and inverts? From a little reading it seems like they are just wondering from first hand experience. Also how are they towards other fish.

yes i have a stag in the DT... only prob is it is a dead stag :(
a customer gave it to me when he got out of SW sometime back so now it's a decoration/future live rock.

I absolutely need some cheato or at least some type of macro in the sump... just got it hooked up and running and putting the lights on tomorrow so macro next along with more mangroves... no those didn't come from John but from my regular wholesaler... next ones will be from John for sure.

Very right about the noise in the pet shop but i'm going to add some mesh or very coarse sponge the will let air through, thought about just stuffing some filter floss in it as I am not crazy about the noise.
The Kole tang works fine with the other fish I've had it with and barely even notices them. I don't have corals in there yet but my understanding is they are fine in a reef. I personally wouldn't keep a full grown one in a 55 unless you can do a small island of LR leaving lots of swimming room. If I still have him when he gets a big bigger I'll put my 75 onto the system and move him to that with just one island of LR in it. He doen't get very big but he does like the swim room so lots of LR in a sump and smaller amount in the DT.. BUT he loves to hide/sleep between the pieces of LR so he needs some to pick from.

Also without lots of LR (as in our smallish setups) you need lots of algae supplimentation IMHO. These guys graze like crazy (mine loves Omega One Kelp Flake food) or Veggie rounds along with seaweed sheets.

Cool thanks for the info. I tried a few things with my drain pipe. Placed a small strip of scrub pad inside for the water to ride down but ended up going with fairly open piece of black mesh that i doubled over and ziptied on. Slides on and off for cleaning and breaks up that cyclone that forms above the pipe. The difference in noise is night and day. Restricts the flow a little but not enough that I have to slow my return pump down.

just to be clear the pipe i'm talking about putting the filter floss in is the air pipe (the one for priming the overflow)

on my intake i cut and glued a bit of half by half inch grid (light grid that is) to make it both break up the Swirling Vortex of Sucking and keep my snails from crawling into the pipe and causing problems.

feel free to use the name "Swirling Vortex of Sucking" and impress your friends with it LOL

    NEW Pics!

Had a last minute development today... someone was breaking down thier 180 gallon reef and packing to move. Already had found home for all the 'major' livestock when they found a few 'minor' stuff. Wasn't going to put any new corals in the tank yet but it was thier best bet at this time. Hopefully I can get the pics to show well enough to get some help identifiing the coral frags.

there are two more corals that didnt' come out at all... all fuzzy.
The last one I already know is my Kole Tang and the new Lemon Yellow wrasse that showed up today, just wanted to show them :)
