    well my tank temps were getting up to 82.6 so i decided to take action.my tank has been dropping nice and slow for the past hour or so down to a more comfy 80.9

    it took me less then 5 min. to make and didnt cost me anything:) enough suspense? i put my return pump (mag 24 external) in a bucket with ice and water:) walaaaa

    haha. That's cool. :) Doesn't the heat of the pump cause the ice to melt over time?

    yeah it will itll need to be refilled regularly till i get money for a chiller.

    I am assuming the pump is being run externally? If so, then the only water around it is going to be cold. While the tank watr will be pretty warm, causing ice to melt much faster.

    about the same. A good chiller is worth its weight in gold ;p

    The heat from the motor will melt the ice faster than warm water. Ice cubes in the sump absorb heat from the water only. With the pump its absorbing heat from the water and motor.

    yes a chiller would be wonderful right now lol but this is a fairly new build so im recouping from the build costs.im still paying my way through college so money is tight.not to mention my gf deciding she NEEDS a vacation and decided she NEEDED to go to a tropical trip lol so this time of year money is uber tight. a chiller is next on my to buy list
