Well I added a Harlequin a few weeks ago to combat my asterina population. I already had an existing sand sifting starfish. I knew it was a matter of time before the sand sifter was a meal.

Sure enough tonight the harlequin was feasting on the sand sifter.

    Very cool to watch ;D

Had to take pics to share :)

Star is definitely dead  ;D

Hes been dragging his meal across the tank. Pretty interesting to watch him work on his food.

It is just nature taking place in front of my eyes....

But yea it is really cool. 8)

Havent seen it before thats why I felt obligated to take pics.

actually i thought that they kept them alive until the last minute by eating the arms first so that the food didnt go bad.

I was expecting to see an arm chopped off. And possibly growing back.

Not sure how it was killed.

The harlequin still has a population of asterinas to go after too. So Im hoping to enjoy the site of this shrimp for quite some time. Will hate to see him go to a new home.

you can keep him... just buy a few chocolate chip starfish and put them in your sump. every week cut an arm off of one and feed it to the shrimp. i know a few ppl that do that
