I'm just finishing a canopy for my 72 gallon. I have a 48" t5 fixture that just slides in and out. I put 1"x"1 pieces of wood on the inside attached to the sides and my light slides right in and sits right on top. Easy in, easy out.

Are you planning on installing fans into the canopy? I'm in the process of deciding how mine are going to work. I will probably be running a 3.5" computer fan controller that will power 2-4 fans.

I wouldn't start ripping apart a perfectly good T5 light fixture, especially if it already fits and you have enough clearance to access the tank.

yea its easy to access everything, i just forgot to cut a hole to reach the switches for the lights lol. im also worried about it getting 2 hot... the whole back is open and the t5s its self have a little 1.5'' fan on the back.... u think thats enough or should i put a fan into the canopy?
