    Hello 3reef!
I've been a aquarist for years but never tackled saltwater. What a different animal!!
I have a 55 gallon that I've had for quite some time to make the transition and don't plan to upgrade to anything larger sufficed to say, though I'm sure that won't keep me from changing equipment as I go along!

I set the tank up on August 15th. Unfortunately it was before I read anything on the proper set-up for saltwater so it was filled entirely with tap water!:( Some reading after the fact brought the realization that I already screwed up.A couple days after fill-up I bought an R.O. unit from someone at my work that was out of the hobby.A few days later with new filters and membrane I replaced all the water and added a 6lb. piece of LR. As of today my Parameters are as follows- Ammonia-0, Nitrite-0, Nitrate-0, Phos-0, PH-8.0, Calcium-440ppm, KH-179ppm, Salinity-1.026.Temps are maintained at 78.5 deg. I'm in no rush to introduce livestock as I'm still waiting for my skimmer to come and 4 par30 lamps from BoostLED.Also been adding LR weekly as budget allows. For filtration I'm running my Fluval 405 canister(freshwater carry-over) with nothing in it but polishing pads and carbon. Also have a Hydor EVO 1400 in the upper corner for water circulation.

I've been gathering information from this site almost exclusively the whole time and just recently decided to become a member.I have a bunch of other hobbies that consume time and money so it's slow going but eventually I'd like to build a nice refugium.I'm looking to keep the tank mostly reef with a few fish.

Welcome to 3reef and good luck. I tell people who ask that a saltwater fish tank is like having a 3rd job and 4th child to deal with. But it is worth it...most of the time.
