you need to contact your vet anyway...for Spaz (I am not sure if that is his name or if a nickname). He is going to need worm medicine and is he up to date with shots?

My brother had a golden that would always kill baby bunnies...and the first time it happened he did not think to call and the dog wound up with a horrible case of worms (intestinal). That gross possum will have nothing on that...

Anyway the vet said that a lot of wild animals carry worms on them and that anytime Jake got a rabbit they would have to call and get drugs for him. They have fleas and mites on them, which causes the worms

Now, my dog came in one day with a .....sorry this is going to be gross.....a birds wing that he pulled off a bird taking along with it half his chest.....heart, lungs (I think that was what those gloobs were...I knew the heart) and when I called my vet I was told birds are ok.

Check out his face and make sure he did not get any scratches anywhere as a possom can do quite a bit of a whollop and you dont want that to get infected.

By the way, I had to take a baby bunny to animal ER one time in the middle of the night because Jake got a hold of one and I could not kill it myself. They took it in for free, but also warned me that they do not attempt to save those types of animals (I guess if it was something else they would have) I said no problem as I knew it was not going to survive

I actually have worm meds and yes he is current on his shots. Good to know. Yes, his name is Spaz and it fits him to a T! My cat Mr. Bonehead, in his younger days and when we had a doggie door, would bring me all kinds of surprises and drop them during the night on the side of the bed where I'd step out onto the floor. Needless to say, one time is enough to start checking the floor when I got up from then on.

Opossum's are known carriers of "rabies" Linda, first off i'd call animal control or use the ol'man's 22cal. and send that thing on to opossum heaven.
then i'd take your dog to the vet ( heres hopeing your dog ) has its rabies shots up to date.

But only way is to take the opossum in to vet "dead" and have it tested for rabies.
Here's hoping it dont have , and opssums are nasty critters and will eat any thing ( decayed/rotting etc. ).

I'd much rather lose the opossum than my dog. (yours)

    Linda,

WAY back my grandma would keep it in a pen and feed it lettuce until it grew big enough to eat...Then she'd make brunswick stew! FUN!!!
