It was giving me problems for a while now with the top part not standing up right so it was constantly tilting back. So just now the hinge broke off and the top part is hanging on by one hinge that was already paritally broken. The laptop is no longer under warranty which sucks.

So now instead of saving up for a light for my tank I have to put on hold along with the other things I need to get. So for now I'm stuck using my Iphone Internet

You can get a casing off of ebay for 30 bucks. Then just swap everything into the new case.

What brand of laptop is it?

Ok I'll look into the casing. It's a HP pavillion that I've had for a while now

Not sure if you are in the market for a new one. But either way the people on the Notebook review fourms can help you.

+1 to e-bay. You can get parts for laptops pretty cheap.
Maybe just prop up the monitor until the time being?

as long as the laptop itself still operates you can just attach an external monitor to it - you can usually find a 17" lcd on tigerdirect for about $99

I actually did this for about 3 years. The replacement screen was over $800. ouch.

As long as the lcd still turns on, and the ribbon cable that provides power and video signal to the panel is intact you can get a new case and you'll be good to go. Just don't flop it back and forth, they break easily.
