my lfs sold me a peice of red montipora capricornus that he had been fragging off of. it has different '"ears" growing off the back side. now the ears are starting to grow together and i was wondering if i should continue to frag this peice or let it grow. i have not come across any pis that look close to the way its growing
pic 1 last week the ears are actually touching now.
pic 2 when it came home from lfs.

I wouldnt frag it unless it was causing a problem with your other corals, ( Taking up to much space, light). I think Montiporia is a very bautiful coral, dont have any yet but thats my next purchase. I plan on letting mine grow and spread, only fragging what i need so my other corals do not get starved of light if it gets to big and casts shadows.

But if you do frag it, send a piece to knoxville Tn
I would return the favor with either Kenya's, Zoanthids, Shrooms

Thats just the way mine grows..
BUT, it would be good to frag one piece.. Danny would take it off your hand..
( just to help you ) He's that type of person..
    And he wouldn't charge much..

    Later, Larry

I was told that the two plates of the monti will fuse together. Like I said I was told that.

I also wouldnt frag it unless it is causing a problem.

Let it keep growing and take its course. Just becuase they are fusing doesnt mean you are not gonna get new "ears"

Heres some of my monti that i hope fuse together... Because they are green and orange. Wanna see what it will look like when the two different pieces fuse.

    monti pieces on my overflow.

Some caps will fuse, not necessarily all of them. I've seen green and orange fuse though so it might work out. Cool looking experiment there, just hope that their edges meet up, without anything to guide them together they may just grow into their own colonies. Good luck.
