    My zoas are opening again.

I noticed a tiny circular flap of skin flipped up on the open ones near the top. I am not sure if this is natural growth in action or a result of UV burn due to a new bulb I threw in for a while.

But perhaps yours are adjusting and will do the same.

What is your alk and calcium at? This event happened pretty close to when I dialed that in. Not sure if related.

It's possible that they are getting too much light. I've had a few species that didn't want to open up after being added to my tank. I finally moved them into some shade and they opened right up. What color are they? What kind of lighting were they under at the store?

Sorry to get back to you so late!

I have lyretail and they are considered by many to be the hardiest. Also, Bartlett are pretty hardy (I was told).

If you go with lyretail, make sure to get at least three. They do better in groups, but are pretty aggressive. They are the most aggressive anthias. If you only have two one will probably be picked on like crazy. I have three, and my little one is picked on by a bigger one. It's not horrible, but I've read about them killing off the smaller or weaker one. So be prepared, there might be some fighting.

They can also be hard to get eating. So make sure your anthias are eating before you bring them home. And they really like strong currents, so make sure you have lots of current in your tank.

If you get Bartletts, they are less aggressive, but also do better in groups.

They are beautiful fish though! Extremely active and fun to watch.

My Zoas are now partially open... it's a multicolor. For some reason, the green ones opened first. This happened when I placed them higher in the tank. So, I think they just did not get enough light in the beginning. Mmmm.... but still waiting for the beautiful orange ones to open... just being patient!
My Calcium levels are normally in a range of 400-460ppm and I use Kent Marine Liquid Calcium (calcium chloride) as a supplement to maintain calcium levels.
I aim to keep my alkalinity at 8-12 dkh. All other parameters are fine and all other corals and fish are doing great :). Just these zoas..... I have to ask my lfs guy about his lighting. Maybe that will give me an answer....
    Thanks for your comment!!!! I will keep ya'll posted d;

Kacy... thanks for responding... that's great info. I still have time to make up my mind and just saw a redstripe Anthias that are beautiful too... I am planning on adding 2, just not to overstock the tank. So far I have one green Chromi, two b & w ocellaris clownfish, one yellow tang and one coral beauty. Planning on those 2 Anthias, one PBT (not so sure because of the poor survival rate but I LOVE that fish), one Hawkfish (possibly the Flame), eventually (after about 1 year the mandarin goby). And of course a list of corals. You can see what I already have under my signature...
As you all know my tank is now 8 months running and I intend to add some more base rock.... so I am taking my time.
Again thanks for all the comments :) !!!

    Mushrooms changing color

When I purchased my mushroom coral it was blue, after a week changed to red, then to brown, then to green and now after being in the tank for 5 weeks back to blue.
Anybody else with the same experience? Any explanations?
As always, I appreciate any comments!!!
I will post a couple of pics still today.
Hope ya'll are enjoying the weekend!!

it was getting use to your lighting. It changes color depending on lighting sometimes, it probably went from a maroon to brown then turquoise then blue again. I had a mushroom produce another polyp and it started out brown then as it grew older it had some green striations in it and I placed it in a rock that I couldnt move again and I noticed it turned brown :( I think it has to do with light acclimation.

Thanks "dumbjerk"... that's an explanation that makes sense... since they are now turning blue again :)
