So this is a little late but better than never. Picked up a 140 gallon acrylic tank that is 5' long. It needed some polishing but nothing some elbow grease could not take care of. Started with a DIY stand, DIY sump, and here is my progress. I'm using a Mag18 pump which I know is a lot of flow but get a really good deal on it. No lights yet or skimmer but we have some time for that. This is going to be a fish only tank with the stocking list still in the works. Now its time for the fun stuff.... PICTURES!! Enjoy even though they are bad cell phone pics.

Here is my stand. Its over kill I know. I used 2x4s and 2x8s just because of the short length of the tank.

Got it skinned and mainly trimmed out.

Used a 40B for the sump

Completed with stain. There is one huge door in the front that you remove but its hard to see.

    Got the return plumbing done

This is it full with water and rock. Used dry rock and black and white sand from Petco. The cycle has officially started!

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Congratulation.

    Nice scape you designed.

Now you can buy equipment and just let the tank do it's thing.

Be careful if you decide on any sort of sand sifting goby down the road. The black sand is tough on them.

    Congrats on the new DT!

Ya know, I now have just over 50 different species of coral total, and when I started, I was sure I was going to be FOWLR!!

I have a 90 gallon that is my reef tank :) I dont think im going to get any kind of goby for this tank but thanks for the advice. Thanks for all the positive feedback and the stand. I was not so sure about it as I was building it. Its now a waiting game till the cycle is over. I can still have fun looking for lights and a skimmer. I would be building a canopy but I had surgery on my foot last week and can not put any weight on it for 8 weeks blah!! Going to get a friend over here that has a much nicer camera than me to take some better pictures too.

Nothing really exciting to report as of now. Saw a spike in ammonia but going to let it sit a few more weeks. Ammonia and Nitrites are 0 right now. Also added a 10 bulb T5 light that is going to hang from the ceiling. Did not need anything really crazy and expensive because this is my fish only tank.
