Today is my breakdown day. I start my new position on the 11th of July. My wife is staying in our existing house in Florida for two months while I have an apartment in the Bay area. Since there is a decently large gap while I am out west and we sell our Florida home, I asked a couple LFS to help me out and both graciously accepted.

Sea in the City is going to be taking my fish and boarding them until I can get the new tank set up. I know this is a big imposition and they are really helping me out. I can't say enough how great they are for doing this.

World Wide Corals is taking in my rock and will be keeping it until I'm ready to set up the new tank. They are also sending over a couple people to help me break everything down today. They've been a big help during the setup and continue by helping me for my move.

    More updates to come.

Thanks for the kind words. My biggest worry is damage to the rock during shipment. This stuff is so unique... as it should be, I got to be the first to cherry pick out of about a ton of rock.

The tank was broken down yesterday. The good news is that there were no casualties and, in fact, we found my female Blue Throat Trigger who had disappeared a couple weeks ago. I had thought she had jumped and gotten eaten by the dogs or something, but she had found her way into the overflow and, while a little skinny, was ok!

So the rock and fish are in their temporary housing - hopefully not too long.

    So here's a quick update...

I may need to start a new build thread and all that work I did on my stand may be for naught. However, it's all good - read below.

My move to the San Fran area is still going on. I haven't been able to sell my house in Florida and I'm still living in a corporate apartment in Pleasanton. It does, however, look like my wife and I have found our new house. The best thing about it is that it has nowhere to put the 185.

Why is that the best thing? Well it has the perfect spot to put TWO 185s, flanking the entrance to the living room! Now this means that my cool custom stand will have to be sold, as will the current 185g (since I need drains on the ends). Still, the thought of having two 185s, see-through, flanking the entrance to the living room has got me totally wound up. And the wife is totally ok with this!

More to come (likely a new build thread) later if we pull this off.

That sounds great. So did your tank stay up long enough.... I was curious if the faux sand bed just got covered with coraline. It's actually a really cool idea with a RDSB else where, but not if it just covers over. I know you used sheet plastic, but I was even thinking of using Corian stuff... but again it would probably just get covered over.

I was expecting it to get covered over with coraline growth, but the tank wasn't up long enough for that. The point of the faux bed was to give the bed of the tank some texture.

Also, I used 3/8" pvc sheet as the base. I'm not sure what Corian costs to compare.
