    Okay guys,

Avast Marine offers a $50 discount if you post a video of the new Vibe. Being a lover of $50 and genuinely impressed with this contraption, I went ahead and produced the following.

It has been running for a day, but so far I think it is very cool. The build quality looks lovely and I'll definitely buy more from Avast.

    Learning how to post!

    And the Unboxing.

One quick note. That water is the result of my sloppiness, not a leak in the reactor!

Sorry it took a second to figure out how to add the movies. If there is a better way to post, feel free to direct me.

nice little video! I'm not familiar with the avast products. What is it that you run in it?

That's a full bag (1 liter) of Zeovit in there. Not having to pump the stuff is a nice bonus.

It would also work for GFO to prevent clumping, carbon, calcium reactor media, or just about anything.

Okay, so a little more information.

The way this reactor works, you put the media in the acrylic basket and the water gently flows through and up without fluidizing anything. This works well by increasing dwell time. Traditionally the problem with this plan is that your media clumps and gums up and stops working well. That is where the genius of this device comes in. For Zeovit, GFO, carbon, and lots of other stuff, you run the low flow rate and twice a day you set the shaker to come on for a minute.

The result is nice clean media, coral food twice a day or as often as you set it, and effective flowthrough.

The acrylic is nice and sturdy and everything seems very well made. There is an integrated ball valve for flow regulation and it comes with lovely, thick walled hose to attach a pump.

You will need either two controlled outlets or one dumb and one controlled outlet to operate depending on what youre running.

I took it apart last night just to see how hard cleaning and restocking was. Its not hard at all. The basket comes off easily and you pick it up, carry it to your sink, do your stuff, then reattach it to the main housing.

I don't think the manufacturer will be thrilled I'm doing this, but I discovered since I only use a small bag of carbon and less than half of the capacity for Zeovit, that I can put my media bag of carbon on top of the Zeovit in the reactor and keep it clean and shaken as a bonus. The bag sits on top without messing up the Zeovit cleaning process.

Some part of me wants to get another small bag of biopellets and stick em in there as well and see if the result is an ultraclean tank all in one reactor. If I run that experiement, I'll let you know.

So I've had this a few days now. I guess reactors don't generally generate a lot of excitement, but this is the best piece of equipment I've gotten all year and the greatest reactor I've owned by far.

This thing actually works. All those annoying things you have to keep adjusting for in a fluidized bed are not an issue. I believe this thing could keep your media running at maximum efficiency until it's exhausted. Doesn't dound like a big deal? Stability is everything, right? Yet were all familiar with the visual signs that things are degrading as your whatever you use gets spent or clumps up.

Only complaint is it's big. I got mine for about $240 which isn't even that much for a good reactor.

    Hi Servillius

Hi mate, where on earth did you find the vibe for $240 - I can't find it anywhere for under $379 from the guys at Avast.
    Thanks

Avast is the manufacturer and as far as I know the only place to get it. They were running a Thanksgiving sale when I bought it. They also offered $50 off for posting a review at the time.

Id talk to them about it. Good luck!
