Nice mantis, but it is not a peacock. You can tell by the trademark leopard spots peacocks (O. scyllarus) have on their rapts. Rather it appears to be a O. japonicus. Neat species, good thing you got it when its small though. When they get larger specimens tend to be short lived in aquaria.

The tank is not glass is it? This species like peacocks can chip glass. Also 15 gal is going to be small when it gets big. A tank twice that size is recommended.

yeah its glass. and im aware of the chipping. im just housing her in it till i can get an acrylic tank which i hope will be soon. if anything happens i have a 20 gallon sitting around i can use and a 10 gallon i can use. and the lfs guy just told me it was a peacock. so i have no clue what she is. im trying to figure it out.

Almost all mantises are misidentified by LFS and collectors. Not many people know enough about them or care enough to get a proper ID. You wouldn't be the first person I have heard of that bought a O. Japonicus as a Peacock.

No problem. I like helping people ID the species of their mantis. Due to the size and species this was a pretty easy on. I have no ideas for a good name though. Picking a good name is always tough. I've been thinking of names for the O. havanensis I am planning on getting for about 2 months now and still haven't come up with anything.
