I just wanted to show everybody my new puppy Cassie.
She is a pure bred mutt, a "Chiweenie" if you will. Her momma was a Dachshund and her daddy was a chihuahua/dachshund mix.
She is absolutely the smallest little thing I have ever seen, and she was just over 5 weeks old when we got her and she was a hot mess. She had a belly bloated with worms and fur crawling with fleas, her tiny neck had a nice dime sized wound that the fleas started to bury in.
Now at 6 weeks old she is flea free and her neck is healing. The only reason her belly is fat is because she is full of yummy food.

That would be my lovely girl Loki, Steve. We rescued her from the local shelter last year and she was nothing but skin and bones and had tons of burs stuck in her fur. She's gorgeous but she's a jerk. I swear she's smart enough to not only know what revenge is, but to execute it as well.

Thanks Puffer. The reason we got her was:
I like to go to the animal shelter to play with the dogs and cats to give them some love, treats and hope. While there I saw a sweet little mutt sitting there and I fell in love with her. You could tell she had been bred and was about 2-3 yrs old. She was so adorable and lovey. I went to the shelter every day for two weeks to see her and play with her and made up my mind that this was the dog I wanted.
The rule for the shelter is first come first serve, so I decided that come hell or high water I was going to be first for that dog.
I got really really sick a few days before she was available for adoption, but I still made sure I got up extra early that day to get her. I was so sick my chest hurt with each breath and I had a horrible fever. I was even hallucinating because it was so bad. I could barely stand straight, but we went to that shelter at 8:30am and waited for the shelter to open at 9am.
When it opened another lady showed up and wanted the same dog. I was so happy because I was told "First come first serve" and I was sure I was bringing home my little girl that day.
Well, the guy at the shelter decided he was going to start a bidding war for the dog. The price of the dog would be what you bid, plus her $40 adoption fee. My bf, good heartedly told the guy we couldn't bid because we only had $100 so the lady, over hearing him, yelled out "I'll give you $110!!!" And I was shocked and heartbroken. The guy said ok and I couldn't believe it. I started to cry right there. I just broke down. I was horribly sick and just wanted the dog I had bonded with for the past two weeks.
The lady just rolled her eyes at me and said "There's plenty more dogs out there, just get another one"
Because I was so upset, my bf decided to make it his mission to find me another baby to fix my broken heart. I am still so sad over that dog, but I do like little Cassie. More so, I feel so loved because my happiness means so much to him.

awww sooo messed up with the bidding war. What my sheltet did when we got our other dog, was put a list of names in a hat and randomly draw. so messed up on how yours did it cause it was all about money. And i'm also glad you found another one at a shelter. I usually don't like the "designer mutts" as on my local craigslits there are sooo many backyard breeders breeding chiweenis, maltipoos, and whatever else. But yours is so cute and glad she's a rescue :D good job

Puffer- Yeah we've got a ton of designer mutts up here too. I can't believe how much people want for them too. I mean, ok, spend $500 on a purebred dog....that's fine. But to ask for $500 for a mutt? But I dunno, a dog's a dog to me. :p

Divott- That is so awesome! We were looking at all of the different Norse, Greek, Roman and Gaelic gods and deities for our first dog. We thought about Odin, but we chose Loki because he's the god of deceit, trickery, and the father of the wolf god. We thought because huskies are the MEANING of Trickery and sneakiness that it fit her. Little did we know it fit her too well, lol.

We named our Dachshund for two reasons, Charlie Day/Charlie Kelly The comedian/character from It's always sunny in Philadelphia, and for Charles Xavier because I'm an x-men fan.

We got Cassie from Cassandra Nova, Charles Xavier's evil twin/entity (A play on our dog Charlie's name seeing as she is now his little sister) and from the angel Castiel.

My mom's side of the family loves dachshunds, and my dad's side of the family have always had chis. So I know how that thing must be like...especially as a puppy. Good luck! And make sure Loki doesn't go around teaching tricks ::)

Seeing pictures of Loki makes me want an Alaskan Malamute so bad. They're related to huskies and are involved as sled dogs, but they are built for more power and endurance instead of speed. But I want one! :D
