    Couple of questions,
1-When i put the bulbs in i noticed these flaps of like thin rubber is this normal or did they not cut it off properly, will it melt?
2-How close should i have the halides from the water?
3-Is there anything i can do to stop the shimmer on my ceiling theres about 2 foot wide across the length of it, also i can see the bulbs when i'm sitting on my sofa.
I plan on having the lights on 5 hours for a couple of days and uping it an hour till i get up to 8-9 hours is this ok?
    Cheers...

I would take advantage of the arch and make it into a canopy with a flip door. Plus looks like your light is shining on back rail of tank. Nice tank.

1 - I don't know what that is but I would probably just leave it.
2 - Where you have them looks good.
3 - You don't like that?? Mine do it to and personally I think it's cool and just makes it seem like the whole wall where my tank is is under water. As for stopping it...no clue *shrug*.

If you hang a black tapestry back there it helps cut the light down a lot... I did it on my old 30 long (I raised the light higher for these pics):

I like your setup a lot. The adjustable shelf rack for the lights is a good idea. To answer one of your questions, I would keep them right there and not go any closer to the tank. Nice job!

    Sorry m8, been working alot.

The problem i got is a lot of light shining into the room from the front, i tried puting something on the back wall but , no good

So what i'm doing now is, i'm gonna hang a piece of mdf cut to the shape of the arch, that i can easily remove and install, maybe cut out a couple of square holes and add some cooling fans.

I have had to move the lights even higher up off the water, my fish and corals were showing noticeable stress, they are now 10" above, but the plank does get a lot warmer now, any ides as to what i could do as in heat proof paint or cover it with something else.

The shelf had to be added to compensate for the further spaced wires compare to my t5's that just hooked onto the Brackets.
Damn the halides weight twice the weight of the t5's 43kg

Will add pics on progress asap...

This may sound silly your saying the shelf gets warm-hot..?? But i had the same problem and used the shiny side of aluminum foil to help reflect the heat away... Another thing you can get but i think its counter active is high heat paint.. Ony thing there is now your heating the paint and wood together..IMO... Cooling fan is another great idea. I seen you had posted that already...

Hope my 2 cents can help ...... Good Luck...
