HI as I put in my other thread i had a great christmas treat, my new lights = 2 x 39 w t-5 one blue one bright white and 2 x aquabeam led marine white strips & 2 x reef white led strips. My husband built them into my original tank hood and here is some before & after pics! i have to say im very impressed with the led lighting as they have made such a impact on how my tank now looks! I have the shimmer effect and the light is sharp& crysyal clear, really a shocking difference.
    Thanks K;D

pretty cool! let us all know how they work in the long run, say 6-8 months from now, if you notice a difference in your tank. I do need to ask though, why did he put the 4 led strips on one side? I think I would have put them surrounding the T5's........:)

I put the T-5 at the back off my tank where the majority off the rockwork is stacked as Im still unsure off how the leds work,if they are as strong as they state and so on.... so its more a experiment to see really! Also didnt think bout puttimg them in the middle!

Where did you get the LED lighting strips at and definitely let me know how they work for you. I am really considering getting some to go with my TEK 8 x 54 T5's as I have heard they are good to add the shimmer.

Hello Kiarah, your husband is just swell! As far as what you can keep, that is the million dollar question. I have 2 power brite strips on my 55 as supplemental light. From what I have seen (in LFS) to get the real natural lighting effect the lights should be about 2-3 feet above the tank. This is because they are so "spot" light oriented. I use them as I said but you will see a definite blue or bright white area on the rock or Corals if they are close to the water. I angled mine and they do give the "shimmer" lines we like but the intense pin point color can be appealing or not so natural looking.
So, how well Coral will do under them is still up in the air, but, with the 2 T5s and them you can keep most soft corals. Let us know what they look like once you get used to them.
