Glad I caught this thread :)

First of all, you guys are mean ;D No need to scare her like that

Second, that fish looks really nice, but it is venomous. How venomous, I have no idea. The black widow looks small, but packs a powerful punch. Maybe try to look up how venomous it is and what type of venom it carries. I remember watching the National Geographic a few years back, they did a special on venom. Their are two types of venom. Neurotoxin, which attacks the nervous system and resporatory(if I remember correctly). And Hemolytic toxin or hemotoxin for short, which attacks the blood and tissue. Either one is bad news, but I doubt this guy would pack that much to do any real danger, but again I've never seen this particular fish before so it's best to do your research. All I can really add to this, is I hope it is like a lionfish's which is similar to a bee sting. Hope this wasn't too confusing, sorry for the lengthy post :)

Well, I am kind of worried about this, but I think I will get some gloves to wear when my hand's in the tank. Would a glove be adequate protection?

I dont think the latex ones would be... A bit of protection though... I do believe they make arm length rubber ones for the hobbyists

my daughter got spiked by our 1 spot rabbitfish. venomous spines also. it drew blood , and only felt like a very light bee sting. only 1 spike got her. she was fine after her initial shock. lol. now i dont know what it would be like if she got more of them. but im sure with the size of a human, and if theres no allergic reaction, probably wouldnt be too bad. this probably didnt help, but just relating a story.

    guy

yes theres arm length ones, the rubber is a bit thing for the glove part. would more than likely give good protection.

From doing a quick Google search it seems that they don't know how venomous the spines are and what the toxins actually do.

I have some heavy duty gloves that I bought awhile back - they are like the ones for corals and stuff. Not the easiest to use, but they would work probably.

If it where me, I wouldn't even worry about it. I wouldn't doubt it is like a bee sting, so unless your allergic, don't be scared. If it does get you, sure it will probably sting, but doubtful it will do any harm to you or your body. Maybe Eric could call them up since he's so close and see if they know anything about it (hint hint Gambit) :)
