I bought a 40g to use as a holding tank, then decided to go a whole different route. So I am left with a new 40g AGA tank. I had for got I started building a new stand for my 75g at a buddies house since I was another stand and canopy that is already finished. Well Im going to take the framed stand for the 75g we were making, and convert it into a stand/shelf and make it a nice piece of furniture.

The picture is not to scale, but it gives the idea. The stand is 48x18x36" and the tank is 36x18x13, so that leaves 12"s of space. Instead of centering the tank like most would do, Im putting off to the side. We built the frame with 2x4's and 2x6's so it would be strong enough to a 90g or bigger if needed. So it will be fine supporting the 40g on 3/4s of the length. I figure there will be enough excess lighting to come off to the side to have some kind nice plant such as a bonsai or possible some kind of terrarium, 12x12x13 or something like that.

Any comments or ideas to add on to it, let me know....as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words...

Well my first plan was to do a species tank, and put a pair of black n white perculas with black sand, black background and a big red bta right in the center(hopefully it will stay there. Then frag a lot of corals I have and put in there and then not touch them until they get to big. As far as other fish in there, not sure yet, possibly a small school of chromis and a clown goby. I also plan on using that super nice totally encrusted fiji branch rock I scored awhile back, there is 52lbs of it so that would be perfect. Lighting would be 2 fixtures, 2x2x39w T5HO's of course. From the lights to the sand will be about 10-12"s so I will be able to keep anything.

You are a GENIUS! You and I both know the cabinet under the plant is just that extra room for an ATO system or a Ca reactor. My wife would have let me build my stand bigger had I approached the situation this way. She doesnt get as excited as I do over these things but a plant...OH Yeah!

Thanks. I will put together a presentation for her tonight!

If you are going to throw in an anemone and some clowns how about a red or blue carpet anemone? Very cool.

You can put that setup in the darkest spot of your house and still grow some high light demanding plants. Plenty of light coming from the tank and humidity as well.

If you give me your dimensions and color scheme of the room you're planning doing this, I can throw something together to show your wifey the potential, hahahaha... We always gotta show them the potential reguardless how long it takes for it to get that way, hahahaha.
