I just finished up a new wet/dry and 150 protein skimmer in my 75g. But Im not sure about this, the skimmers output had to be placed in the sponge to :

!- stop the millions of air bubbles entering my tank.

2- the water level in the skimmer wouldn't rise unless I had some resistence on the output... like the water level was controlled by the output pressure.

was wondering if yall would look at the photo and see if this setup was ok....
especially the output going into the filter/sponge.

otherwise tank is doing good, LR seems to be growing stuff, and 1 hermit and 3 damsels are doing good.

    TIA

Is that an in-sump Seaclone 150 in the middle?

I have a HOB Seclone 150 on my 80 gallon. It will take about two weeks to break in your skimmer. The veturi is cotrolled by the amount of air you allow in. I removed the foam filter from the venturi on my unit.

I have the same exact problems however mine is a hanging one.

I am currently looking at different cheep skimmers as a test to see how they work in comparison.

In the end I will end up tossing the bigger penny and investing in a decent skimmer..

Over all the SeaClone hasn't impressed me. Kinda flimsy casing . .

Anyhow back to the topic, if there is a solution or user error please let me know. It may save me some heartache and cash. mike_4_all@hotmail.com

My HOB Seaclone 150 works like an absolute champ. I clean it once a month. The collection cup gets emptied twice per week and I clean the venturi basket once per week. I just readjust the airflow after each cleaning of the venturi basket.

Heres a page which had a good example of my back pressure situation...this site is a good back-up to 3reef....
    but only backup! :)

Im including the picture of the skimmer with a ball valve on the output, to cotrol back pressure to keep the water level at the water-line.

And if you look it gives some articles on liverock, curing, and tank care.
