There is no need for comments like that Otty. the same could be said for people who think you can't grow anything without metal halides, cause that is totally incorrect.

just a question for those that use T5HO's... have you ever noticed that there is a perfect (i'd say one inch thick) layer of sand that the light actually penetrates? when i had my setup, i thought it was like that because my sand had settled and messed up, but when I stirred it up, it still showed that one inch all the way across the front glass... i just think that's awesome in a way..

I added a 30G prop tank to me system about 4 month ago. I used 4X 24W T5 about 4 inches from the surface. The 30G is plumbed into the main tank so all the water is the same. With in a week of putting SPS frags in the tank they would brown out. Digitata, Moti's or Arco. Didn't matter.
So I ran a little test to make sure the stress of fragging was not the problem and I cut 2 Acro frags one stayed on the sand bed of my main system and the other high in the frag tank. The frag on the sand in the main tank kept it;s great colour while the one in the frag tank browned out. needless to say I have a T5 fixture for sale and a 400W MH over the tank now

I got some brownish corals awhile back and in with 2 weeks of being under T5HO's one was bright yellow and the other was bright pink, both were SPS. I dont know what happened with yours, but I have had GREAT success with mine. I went from evaporating 10g a week to less then 3g and a 2 degree temp drop. Not to mention I am no longer using any extra fans so you can take that off the electric bill too.
