Thanks Divott, I learned a long time ago with my fresh water tanks that a little forethought goes a long way when setting up any new system.

no new toys at the moment, although I am currently building a larger sump out of a 40 gal breeder tank my brother gave me... and a little birdy told me there are a few gift cirtificates on the Christmas tree i'm supposed to use for adding some inhabitants to the setup.
I'm loving my skimmer, I just wipe the crud out of the neck twice a week and forget it, collection cup is full every 3 days like clockwork and all thats in the tank so far is about 50 snails and a lone blue legged hermit crab :)

Ok, so I wasn't very happy with the original fuge/sump setup I had. It was a 20L that housed the fuge and then drained into a 10 gal tank under it where the return pump was housed. The skimmer was also plumbed into the 10 gal and while it was quiet I could never quite get it tuned to be silent.

    original fuge.

    Thanks :)
yes, the T coming off the return line at the height of the collection cup connects to the skimmer.
You can see the hose snake behind the skimmer in this shot.
