A few months ago I found a pistol shrimp in my tank but I rarely saw it.
Pistols are amazing, he has made tunnels throughout my LR and you can see the little holes he has made and then he travels throughout the LR. Well recently he has ventured out more, I see him more frequently. It is tiny, less than an inch in lenght and very skinny. Even his claws are small, and he's dark in colour.

Pistols have character. Last night I heard him clicking so I thought maybe I could get a glimpse as to what he's up to. And I did. I flashed my led flash light on him and he stopped and stared in the lights direction, and the tiny guy has guts! He lifted his bigger claw in the air and held it up as if to say "look how big and tough I am" it was quite cute. Just had to share in my new experience. I wonder if him and my watchman will ever pair up?

Pistol shrimp are amazing critters, especially when they're paired with a goby. Glad to hear that you're enjoying yours and hopefully, it will pair up with your goby!

Oh, and pistols don't burrow through live rock. A mantis will though. :)

I know it's no a mantis, I have seen it alot and it is definitely a pistol but it does live in the LR, it never leaves it. Shrimp body, shrimp face, shrimp eyes, and one larger claw and a smaller one. Weird.

I like mantis so even if you had one, I'd think it was cool :) As far as I know, however, pistols don't have the ability to dig tunnels in rock but I could be wrong.
