i have spent almost all of my efforts on my salt tank and new salt tank but i still love my fresh water. it is about a year old set up. but the angels are only about 8 months old.

Nice pic - although there seem to be other links that don't work? Anyway I LOVE planted FW tanks. I'd have one in my house along with the reef tank, but my wife will only tolerate one fish tank...:-/

Nice planted tank. What kind of substrate is that? What lights are you using?

the substrate is pigeon grit gravel that i picked up from a lfs. i think it looks great. and surprisingly i am just using the lights that came with the tank, just the standard walmart lights that come with the hood. but i use florasun bulbs. very low tech but it has been very stable. i am very happy with the set up.

my tank has already gone through it algae blooms. it really doesnt even matter how much i keep my light on now. it never gets algae anymore. i just took my time on this tank and didnt rush anything and it turned out great. i also made sure not to use any lfs water and i only used my ro water from home. when my algae was a problem however i used a slight amount of Tetra brand Algae Control and cut down on my lighting time to just a couple hours a day. I also had many snails appear in my tank. to tell you the truth im not totally sure how they got there. i have noticed they keep my driftwood clean. there is really nothing that i have to do to this tank as far as maintainance goes. its very simple. my advice is take your time, dont over stock and watch your lighting. then everything will turn out great.
    hope this helps.
