i was just sitting back relaxing when i thought about how i sold a bunch of mollies to a man to cycle his new salt tank, when i thought, "hey, are mollies reef-safe?" they like to pick at algea and just about anything that can fit in thier mouths, CAN THEY BE TRUSTED?????

(hypothetically of course, im not actually going to put mollies in my reef tanks)::)

Mollies can be acclimated to full salt, so yeah, fresh water mollies ;)
I have no idea about being reef safe though

wow I did not know this!
I am a little skeptical though because if the fish is used to a lower density water and put into saltwater it would have trouble swimming around and breathing.
I used to have a snowflake eel years ago that I used to feed feeder goldfish to they would last about an hour in the saltwater.

Mollies are considered a brackish fish. Able to be in any mixture of fresh/salt.

Reef safe? Yourguess is as good as mine.

I used Mollies to cycle a tank and kept them for a year in saltwater before returning then to lfs.

I always use mollies to cycle my tank. I had a couple of them in a tank with a couple pieces of live rock with some polyps and tube worms... All they did was pick the algae off the rock. Therefore, I know that they are safe with what was mentioned above. I don't know however if they are safe with sponges etc.

Golden Sailfin and Dalmation mollies will look quite nice in a reef tank and the black ones will surely add a nice contrast

    Cheers

we actually have mollies in the frag tanks at the lfs where I work. They are HUGE now and don't mess with any of the corals. They actually breed in there too. I would say they are absolutely reef safe.
