Aiptasia anenome. Very aggressive colonizer and will take over a tan if left unchecked. I use a syringe and needle which ou can get from a feed store that sells vaccinations for large pets. I mix 1/2 muriatic acid and hot water in a glass bowl, fill the syringe and inject the anenome. They are very quick and be sure to followw them down the hole and keep injecting the diluted muriatic acid as it kills them on contact. You can find muriatic acid at Home Depot.

Muriatic acid has done no harm to my tank and I've used it for almost 2 years.

Inverts - crabs, snails, and shrimp, are vaery sensitive to water quality and nitrites in particular. I wouldn't add anything until the tan has spiked in ammonia and then leveled out.

Green algae, brown diatoms, and red cyano bacteria are all part of the maturaion process in a tank so don't fret. As Matt Rogers saya"Go slow and let it grow."

Keep us posted and let us know what your water parameters are.

Is that a rio 2100 pump? They like to heat the water a tad more than a MAG would.
I have the same sump...I would not use the bio balls if I were just setting it back up IMO the are a waste of good space. If you have allot of Live rock you don't need bio balls.
If your friend is giving stuff away give him my email LOL.

Craig I heard you can also use Lime water to inject them but I have never had to do this knock on wood.

Guys i forgot to tell u that i did da coctail shrimp stuff a couple of days ago and i tested my water and heres da para.

    Nitrite 0
    Amonia !
    ph 8.4
    salinity 1.024

and i tested it today and it is the following
    Nitrite 0
    amonia 0
    ph 0
    salinity 1.025

    wut u all think.
i got brown algae all over my sand and rocks and the lfs guy said that it is weird my water parameters, that it could be possible that my water cycled but to stay on the safe side i should not introduce lifestock for at least 2 more weeks. Opinions are greatly accepted

PS. my lr and ls are totally covered in brown algae(diatom algae i believe)(tell me if im wrong). Looks kinda gross.

Water and electric current don't mix! Salt wayer and electricity absolutely dont mix. I am using the same sump but bigger. A few tips first I am going to drill my sump ( should have done it before tank was running!) and put return pump outside of sump (mag 950 so I have that option) You might want to consider that seeing there isn't alot of room in it. Also there is supposed to be a blue white pad in the top of it but I wouldn't use it because it clogs quickly but worst it stops any pods and such from getting to the filter. I would use the sponge that goes between the bioball chamber and the clean water area it is an area where I see critters thriving. I use a solution of kalk and ro water mixed into a paste and then a syringe to injecyt it into the Aiptasia I then don't dose kalk for a couple of days as a precaution. It works and I have the stuff here so it doesn't cost me any extra

thanx a lot for ureinfo. after finally understanding wut u posted, i really like the idea and i am considering it.
Bout the kalk, ima use the muratic acid cause i allready have it in hand cause u use that for pool treatmen. 100% pure muratic acid. so ima wait for a freinf that is a nurse to hook it up with a syringe(theres have a finer needle than the one in my lfs)and start the process of elimination.

That's looking great. Your cycle might happen quickly. The sand you are using was likely in a wet bag with water. I'm guessing it was http://www.naturesocean.com/bioactive.htm It doesn't have all of the bacterias you need for a cycle but it gives you a good start.

Your brown algae is likely diatoms and that is very normal with a new tank. However is it is slimy and looks like snot with bubbles in it, hit me with a PM. I have written an article on how to get rid of dinoflagellates. However, I see no reason for you to see it right now because dinoflagellates are luckily rare.
