I remember when I first hooked this Remora skimmer up it was kicking out too-wet foam. Now a year later, I have it all the way down and it only produces a quarter cup a month! I don't get it.

I am pretty sure the thing is not clogged, but I'll check it again to make sure.

It's always been not much of a producer, but recently I hooked up a phosban reactor and tonight was the first time in two weeks that the foam has made it to the top. :p

Weird to me because I have a little tank and feed the fish every day, you'd think there was enough to skim.

ANyone else have the same experience?

I have noticed the same thing with my Remora skimmer. It doesnt seem to skimm as much. However my Remora pro is a beast. I'm going to buy a Rio Hyper flow 6 pump to replace the maxijet 1200 on the Remora. The Rio pumps at 350gph but drops off quickly
and it uses only 15 watts. I'll let you know how it works out.
I'm thinking the spray nozzle must be getting some Calc build up. Thats my only beef with these skimmers is that you cant really get to the spray nozzle to clean it.
Matt, one thing that helped improve skimming in mine was to soak the skimmer over night with vinegar and water.

I was never able to produce much skimmate with my Remora Pro. I always assumed it was because I had it on a 29 gal. I didn't think there was enough organics for it to skim. I was also only able to produce wet foam.

I only ran it for about 2 month and decieded that I was going to go skimmerless. I plan on using it on my 50 gal reef I will be setting up. This tank will have about 90 gal with sump so I think the skimmer may function better in the larger tank.

Matt I have 3 of them and have the same thing with all three. I have talen them off the tanks and cleaned them out and messed with the 1200 pumps. This has helped some. I think we need more be\igger pump. What should we try? What pump would you recomend to try and mabey I will buy one to see. I get about half a skimmer cup from each 1 every week and the others only make like 1 inch but it is black. I have the owner of remora's email. I will email him to see what mods they have tryed at the factory.

    Hey Matt,
I have a remora pro w/mag 3 pump and I have the collection cup up as far as I can go with it and I get 1/4 inch of skim mate every 2 days! I also run a P.M. H.O.T.-1 w/ maxi 1200 on the same 55 gal. tank the P.M. makes almost no skim mate but I leave it on because the skim mate in the remora is green and the tiny amount over a week in the P.M. is brown? Not very scientific but I assume their getting different stuff out (both bad) Also both are watery? Hope this helps?

Yeah it seems to be one or the other with these Remoras, wet green water or next to nothing brown skimmate. I would think a pump bigger than the MaxiJet 1200 - something like the Ocean Runner 2500 would help or the old stick an air stone in it trick.

Matt, I ordered the new Rio hyperflow 6 pump rated at 350gph to replace the maxijet on my remora skimmer.  I should have it by friday.  I'll let you know if its any better than the maxijet.  I was thinking about getting the Quiet One 1200 pump by lifeguard.  Its rated at 296gph like the maxijet 1200 but can pump at 6' of head pressure, so it may perform better than the maxijet.  It also uses more power at 25w.  The rio uses 15w and may not have enough power to run the skimmer.  Guess I'll find out if I wasted my money.
The other thought I had was to use a larger pump and place an inline ball valve so I could adjust the water flow into the skimmer. I've got a Via Aqua 1300 pump rated at 375gph.

Cool. Let me know how it goes.
Truth be told, I was so frustrated that I ordered another hang on the back as a replacement - the AquaMedic Turboflotor 1000 Multi. My buddy had one and it was solid with air bubbles and cranked out the gunk. I'll be auctioning the Remora soon.

The turbo floater is supposed to be a great skimmer. I've been thinking about getting one too for my 120g and putting the remora pro in my 75g. Let me know how you like the TF.
