hey I really like that aquascape. I'm not sure the German methods are very different. Most experienced reefers here, don't use bioballs for example. Many local fish stores will try to sell them to inexperienced hobbyists though. I am not sure why, maybe high profit margin or something. Once people learn though, they usually ditch them. As to the slow approach, I've seen it come and go. It's been trendy at times, but generally people seem to generally come to the conclusion that it doesn't makes enough of a difference to bother. Our society certainly prefers instant gratification though, so, that may be relative.

    Great tank!

    Hi m
Of course, the methods are not completely different. Many enthusiastic hobbyists did their part to exchange and develop methods and most of the brands are available internationally. But I'll just continue to document my progress and methods used, maybe there's still some unexpected difference to be found :)

But maybe its really the way you describe it, methods come and go and its just a matter, which approach is popular in the country you are at the moment.

I'm sure, on a large scale there are different perspectives regionally. With the internet though, people see something, and try it; often without any idea of where the concept originated. So, with the internet, the hobby becomes a bit of a melting pot for new ideas. People won't necessarily think of them if people don't post though, so definitely continue to share your experience!

Coming from a US hobbyist, i can say that I think the German cycle is smarter and better than our cycle.
Typically we will have people who will have algae outbreaks that last anywhere from 6months in the whole way to over a year in. It is just too many adjustments at one time if you ask me! I first read about your cycle method a year ago and in hindsight, thought it was an interesting concept... Much better laid out than our version of cycling. I believe all seasoned aquarists eventually realize that it is much better to cycle this way than just by nitrates.
