Sounds like I have myself a plan here. HOPING to get the tank wet and started cycling this week, like Friday maybe. With Christmas fish tank funding and experiemting is not allowed (wifes orders) so making my overly complicated sump/fuge setup is gonna have to wait till after the first of the year.

The constant skimmer level is acheived in my system by having the return to the sump (From the DT),
empty into a smaller contrainer, (mines a 10g plastic container) which overflows, or can be directed out of cut outs near the top of it, into the larger 50g sump. No matter what the level is in the sump, the level in the smaller container always stays where you make the our flow to the larger container.

Awesome Todd! That makes perfect sense! So I need a smaller catch from my overflow that overflows into the sump.....I LIKE IT! Sounds like I may need to revamp my sump a little. I will post pictures as I go. Currently, my DT overflow enters my sump via my DIY Algae Turf Scrubber. So now I need to figure out how my ATS will enter a separate container that contains my protein skimmer before entering my sump. Sounds like fun for a DIYer such as myself. I will keep everyone posted as I figure this one out!

Perhaps someone can help with this question....how come my fuge (previously pictured) does not maintain a constant water level? Shouldn't the water level remain constant like the display tank? The fuge is also fed after the return pump like the DT.... Can't quite figure out the water logistics on this one:confused::eek::eek::confused::p

The water level shouldn't change at all, there are only two things effecting it. Unless somehow your pump or syphon are varying?
