Siku means "sea ice" in Inuit. Common dog names didn't seem to fit, so we looked at sled dog names. Not sure what you mean about trademarks.

Yeah, Nanuk means Polar Bear in Inuit, I guess its a common dog name for huskies.

And I meant like anything special he would do or still does. For example, Nanuk will jump up on top of a half barrel we have in our yard and then lie down on the plants in it, surveying the whole yard. Or when I rake piles of leaves he likes to jump in them and run through them.

    Gotcha.

Since we got him, he sleeps under my wife's desk every morning and keeps her feet warm.

Lately he has been into finding gum on walks. Apparently, people spit their gum out under park benches and it's easier for him to get to vs the stuff that's stuck to the sidewalk.

    Thanks!

Nanuk likes to grab gum on the ground when he can find it too.
Nothing like husky howls at 5:30-6:00 am to wake you up :)

They can sure "talk." It's hilarious when they really get going...it's like they're trying to talk, but they can only speak "howl." When I read this back, it sounds really weird....husky owners will understand!

Nanuk really starts talking when I give someone too much attention for too long, I guess he's jealous? Don't worry I understand completely. For those who don't youtube husky howl.
I always learn of another Nanuk when I mention his name, going to look it up right now!

Not too excited about his puppy days right now, hopefully he'll calm down a little bit by the time he's 3 or 4. But he makes up for it with his cuteness. haha

For you new husky puppy owners, huskies are such sweet dogs...when they're not destroying your house! Maya destroyed a couch, carpet, several crate pads, the back deck, some shoe molding, a $100 Chaco sandal, a Bostonian dress shoe, and two oak leaf hydrangeas...those are the things I can remember. This was all in year one. There's a saying that a tired husky is a well-behaved husky...this is true! She's actually to the point where we can leave her unattended in the house all day without mass destruction going on. We did take 2 puppy classes, which helped a whole lot with behavior tips. She also goes to doggy daycare once a week, which is just wonderful! She loves to play with other dogs and they are very well supervised. Best of all, she comes home and is TIRED, even the next day!

Oh, I forgot one...the sheet rock...what dog eats giant holes in sheet rock??? Thank goodness for spackling (a lot of it) and touch-up paint.

And digging...lots of digging! Our backyard was like a minefield with holes everywhere. With a whole lot of persistence, we were able to train her to mostly dig in her "designated digging area," which happens to be the area where she turned two large oak leaf hydrangeas into little nubs.

She's 2-1/2 now and even though quite active, she's just a delight. We love her so much and she even has my husband, who was quite opposed to having a husky, wrapped around her little paw!
