My Sixline

I picked up a juvenile sixline yesterday at my LFS for 18 bucks. I acclimated him for about 2 hours, then put him in. He was doing great! He was eating and swimming around and mingling with my fish/corals and all of that good stuff. Unfortunately, I got up this morning and found him on the floor..

 

When stressed they are known to be jumpers. If your tank params are fine, then i would check for STRAY VOLTAGE.

The thing is, he wasn't stressed... I know that juveniles are even LESS stressed when introduced to a new tank. He wasn't breathing/swimming hard at all. He was chillin around my tank all day, evening at feeding time when I fed brine, he was fine and ate with all the other fish. I was watching the tank for at least an hour and a half.. No darting. No Nipping. No nothing.


And Params? Don't even ask me about those They are always fine..

 

Going under the assumption that your params are always fine is a bad practice. I believed the same thing. And once i put base rock in and never considered the fact that something could go wrong, 1 week later half my corals died. Ammonia spike, from a small root embedded in the back of the rock. Something must have stressed it. I would test your params. whenever something doesnt seem right, i test. Personally i think a juvenile would be MORE stressed. Younger and smaller organisms tend to be picked on more often. Do you have any fish that are "Nocturnal"? And check for stray voltage. This is a one time test and fix. And it makes a big difference. Could you blame an organism for jumping if it was constantly being shocked?

 

Okay first off. No one said I was assuming anything at all. I just mean they are fine because I constantly check my tank. I clean daily as well. If i'm not doing anything said before, I'm doing something else for my tank. As for stray voltage, no there is none. No nocturnal fish either... Params are definitely right where I want them..

 

And then you turned the lights off and it became a completely different world! When you did that maybe someone got brave and started chasing him, and zoom he tried to get away....... They are known to be jumpers and without a top a simple get away most likely turned tragic.

you should ask your lfs what there water parims are? because you shouldnt have to acclimate for 2 hrs when coming from a lfs, lot of stress.

could've been a nocturnal invert too, if a crab woke you up in the middle of the night you'd jump too, sorry for the loss that sucks, I lost mine not long ago but were no signs of him anywhere
