    1. I know, it sickens me. Doesn't he fear for his son's life, and the lives of others?

    2. TBH, I'm not even sure if we can get another car. ---> $

    3. Thank you for the compliments for Jordan. He is a great kid and I hope it stays that way. You're such an awesome man cosmo, I can't see your child being anything but awesome as well.

It's kind of a crap shoot with a higher mileage car. My sister had a 2004 Camry with high mileage and the transmission went. Replaced that, and 6 months later the engine went. She bought it as it was a Camry and so should have lasted 'forever' even with the high mileage. Not so much :(

However, there are cars that are generally more reliable even as they age. Even within the more reliable brands there are certain models or even model years to avoid! If you do decide to go that route, feel free to let us know so we can hopefully provide some more help!

Thank you so much Marshall. At this point I'm not sure what to do. I will definitely call out for help when we figure out the best plan of action.

Fast forward to this morning. My neighbor came over last night and talked with us about the car. His brother found 3 motors here, the city I live in, and another one about 30 minutes away. All of them are in the $300.00 price range. He and his brother have put several motors in different cars. My neighbor said they can tow Jordan's car from the shop to their house and they will put it in for us at no charge. I asked him several times if he was sure he knew how to do this. We're pretty good friends and he's a humble man. He assured me they have done this many times with different cars and although it's not easy, they could do it, and do it correctly.

Jordan and I spoke about it and we think this is a good solution. If it doesn't work we're only out $300.00.

Jordan came up with a great idea for getting from his high school to the college and back: he's going to ride a bike! G R E A T idea! :)

I am not embarrassed whatsoever regarding asking for opinions from those of you who have been chiming in. Before my surgery I was a college teacher; I'm not stupid. However, I simply do not know about this kind of stuff. It's the same thing as to when I was reefing: the most difficult part for me was understanding how to properly hook up and use equipment. This is also why I had my friend who is a plumber help me with the plumbing when connecting it to the sump. I didn't want a flood and I didn't want dead animals.

So, what do you think? Thanks in advance. :)

Well, right now the car is useless. $300 is very cheap for a complete engine, so if they really can get one for that, go for it! If they do end up doing this, I would throw them at least $300 for labor. I have pulled and replaced motors myself, and it will take at least 8-12 hours and is a lot of hard work!

    Very cool that they offered!

    Good morning Marshall. :)

Yes, not only is it useless but it's dangerous as well (the mechanic said he wasn't kidding when he stated that it could blow up).

Yes, although they offered to do it at no cost we definitely would give them some money. They'd deserve it. :)

Jordan encouraged our neighbor to start Tae Kwon Do and Jordan helped him a lot. As is common with high belts, he encouraged without ever embarrassing our neighbor. They also play basketball together; our neighbor is a very nice man and really likes Jordan which is why he's willing to do this.

on a side note if the car is starting to have these type of issues once it is fixed you really might want to look at trading it before the transmission, tork converter, CV joint, heads, fuel lines, brake lines electrical wires, computer, EXT. start going bad. not saying that it will but Dodge has a real bad habit of small issues that are really a pain which= expensive to fix.

not trying to be a debie downer just my 2 cents. you might be able to afford a slightly better car for him in the long run.

I had to do it on my 89 ford bronco since being young and married I just couldnt arrord or have the time to fix everything, and I had axcess to a full auto shop and a machanic at my desposial. so I got a new bike for the gas milage and the ready to roll without any worry.

    Good morning rc :)

Not a side note at all IMO and I definitely appreciate your input.

I am thinking the same thing: it's just a car with lots of miles and is going to keep having problems. Putting in this engine would give us some time to look for a different car and also give us a chance to save up some money for a better one.

We live in Wisconsin: only a few more months and it'll be getting too cold and obviously too snowy for a bike; it has to be a car.
