I have a 180 and introduced a pair of young orange occelaris with an older pair of blacks that I have had for two years. They all swim together a lot in a school but will then separate abd switch mates at least twice a day. Is this pretty normal?

Oh, the shame!! Immoral beasts!! lol

Actually no, it's not normal. Typically, two pairs don't get along at all unless they're in a tank large enough to keep separated. Guess you got lucky. :)

Hey mister Bill, how large a tank is "large enough" ?
Would it help if there were 2 rock outcrops so they could have1 each ?
I am transferring a pair from my 90 into my 350, I would love to pop in a pair of black and whites at the same time, is there a way to do this easier than just pop them in and pray ?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Try to avoid introduction of a large older dominate female first or even at all. Introduction of younger clowns helps as well. Better to introduce all clowns at the same so no one clown already has a staked out territory.

I have not heard of clowns doing this but it sounds totally awesome that they get along that well!

I think this only worked because all fish were transferred to the 180 together last week. It's friggn cute and hilarious that they appear to be a family now.

I figured they would eventually part ways and live at different ends of the tank. Time will tell.

Does the new pair have a true female or just a slightly larger juvie?
