It's not looking good at all ...

If I could get the clownfish to eat it would be better but such is not the case.

How is the oxygen in your tank?

Not sure, how would I test that?

Right now I have the clown in a hospital tank while I decide what to do with the display. Been trying to coax him into eating some shrimp, and he may have gotten a couple bites.

Unfortunately I have to leave again Monday for a few days.

How agitated is the surface of your water. If you changed plumbing recently, you may have affected the amount of oxygen that is exchanged at the surface of your tank.

Speaking of which, how is the ph in your tank at the end of the night cycle and at the end of your day cycle?

If I were you, I would get some carbon inline... I would go a little heavy with it as well. Check ALL your water chem.. Check for any fray's in electrical components to make sure current isnt zapping your tank. If your tank is established, clean your filter material.

It something str8 forward - we just have to find out what it is.
Do you have good oxygenation in the tank? If not toss a bubler on the tank.. Not saying thats what it is - I am just trying to think outside the box... GOOD LUCK, STAY FOCUSED AND YOU WILL FIGURE IT OUT. I got faith in ya! K+

Whops - missed this post, yeah I would get a bubble maker on your tank. Easy to rule out.

Thank you very much for the words of encouragement, I really appreciate that.

I am fairly confident that the problem was my quite overzealous use of a turkey baster this past weekend, with the ammonia spike gone by the time I was able to test but the damage already done. As they say, lesson learned.

    However ...

With the clownfish safe (relatively) in a hospital tank and a near total loss of snails I have decided to drain the system. I will be replacing rock and substrate. I was never satisfied with the rock I had as it was dry quarried Atlantic base, and as I later learned not the best suited for a reef tank.

I will be upgrading to a combination of Premium Aquatics Fiji and Reefcleaners base. Please visit my tank thread for updates:

Hopefully the clownfish will survive this ordeal ...

We all have to learn our lessons one way or another. So have you picked up your new stuff yet?
