surface agitation ? something to do with oxygen, I read that when there is no oxygen the fish go to the top, mine are acting normal. Question.. do the air bubbles brought down from the filter/skimmer effect the water oxygen? I have kinda a ghetto refugium atm, better then nothing, right?

Two sand sifting starfish both still alive. I'll take that picture, sec

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
If the water is grey or green in color you have to consider that may be a type of bacterial bloom which can quickly consume O2 at night depriving your fish and inverts.

The coral is called a Pipe Organ (common name).

Yes a skimmer does add a good amount of O2 if running correctly.

Honestly myself I would stop the water changes if your levels are truly as posted. But you have to make that judgement call.

Also if it were my tank I would turn off the lights.

No way of telling what is wrong with the tank and what the outcome may be. Too many things going on.

    1. Addition of CUC.
    2. Water changes.
    3. Addition of corals that sound stressed now.
    4. Recent history of death of shrimps.

My advice is to not buy or stock anything more in the tank until you figure out why you can not keep shrimp, and cause or resolution of the abnormal water color. I would also seriously consider taking the sand sifting stars back and wait until your tank is much more established, like 6 months down the line. Only buy corals and inverts that you have researched and can ID prior to purchase. Lastly unless the fish or corals look very stressed I would do one intervention at a time and wait and see the outcome of that intervention before trying a different approach.

Not much help but it's really hard nail it down with so many variables sorry.

I almost feel that since the water was so cloudy the corals had no photosynthesis today and if i turn the lights out they might be in worse shape

Are you using RO/DI water? Probably a Bacteria bloom and your feeding it even more.

Corals can go days without direct sun or light with little to no adverse reaction.
