Both of them died today. I have been wanting 2 for a while now and finally found some at my LFS for $25 a piece plus the half hour drive it takes to get there and back. Got home, accimated(sp?) them properly and a few hours later when I came back both were dead.

This sucks royally...not just because of the money spent but also it seemed like I couldnt keep them alive.

Did you drip acclimate it, or let the bags float?

    Bags float.

25 minutes to acclimate for the temp.
then added half cup of tank water for another 20 minutes x 2
then added them to the tank

why do a water change before adding them? Never done that to any of fish before.

Not sure about a water change, but it is recommended to drip acclimate shrimp because they are more sensitive than fish. sorry about the loss

i just suggest it because you know you're water will be fresher. if i buy a coral from my LFS and buy water from him too, i know i'm adding the same water the coral (or shrimp in this case) is already acclimated too. im not saying this is proven science, just something i thought was wise on the side of caution

In all the shirmp I purchased that's from firebloods too skunk cleaners/anemone shrimps always 90% of the shrimps survived...
It's mainly about the water temp and If your water has been cultured for a good time now...
that dosn't mean 2 months but like 6-8 months or even longer...
pistol although i haven't had but people seem to tell me that thieer fairly hardy as skunk cleaners...
I've also had harlequins and they were lots of fun as we'll!

Bummer, Ive learned from a lose similar to this that I keep a 2.5 gallon tank for my slow drip acclimation of everything. I do a minimum of two hours, usually bringing the water to double of what the water they came in was. This also allows you the opportunity to see how your new purchase is going to be.

+1, I do the same, but not from a loss. I kept the Styrofoam Cooler that an Online fish store sent my live stock in a couple years back. I then drilled a hole in its lid for the tubing I use for the drip. I usually do a 2-3 hour drip. The cooler holds 2.5 gallons. I also do a water change for the same reasons as Ashevillian. Better water, better introduction to the new tank. Less stress more hapiness. I have also done a drip aclimation into the bag the LFS has given me. running the tube directly into that then re-sealing it with the rubberband, this method allows you to do both drip and bag float at the same time.
