I spent the majority of the morning at the National Zoo in Washington DC today and took a ton of pictures. About 1/4 of the zoo was under construction which was kind of disappointing but there were still a lot of cool things to see. I was really impressed with their invertebrate house which had a lot of saltwater tanks. The elegance coral they had was by far the most impressive. It was probably 2.5 to 3 feet in diameter! They also had a peacock mantis which I've never seen one in person before so that is always cool. But anyway, I'll just let the pics speak for themselves.

    That's not a squid, it's a cuttlefish.
anpgp, did you get to see the cuttlefish display any patterns/colors?

Just a little bit. There was someone that kept tapping on the glass and it flashed a little color then but not a lot.

Yeah, I saw it but to be honest I was indifferent on it. I grew up going to the St. Louis Zoo which in some respects is a lot better than the DC one and small mammals is one of them. On the other hand, the nat'l zoo has a way better invert house.

The DC zoo always has some construction going on! Last time I was there was for an event called "Brew at the Zoo," a fundraiser. Had a blast!
