ACK! My Tunze turbelle struck again!
Some time back it mutilated my linkia starfish. I had thought it just crawled on up the strainer of the intake - the fish seemed to avoid it. Until now. :-[ Today I found my coral beauty stuck to it near the top of it where the suction is most powerful. It was dead. I am bummed! That was a great fish. Peaceful and didn't touch my corals. ACCKKKKKK...

I need to build a safer strainer. I was thinking of perhaps double walling it near the top with a wider pipe like a hair curler to reduce the suction. Any ideas? :-/

    That sucks....sorry for the loss.

What about a sponge. Cut it like a donut and then place it over the intake of the turbella. I wonder if that would restrict the flow too much? You would have to clean the sponge often though.

    Thanks everybody.
I was thinking of going the plastic route becuase a sponge would get dirty pretty quick where that pump is I think.

Seems to me you would need a housing something like what comes with the SEIO pumps. You of coarse can't change the output of the tunze, but you might be able to make a housing for the intake. Or even the covers that come with large rio pumps, you might be able to bore a hole large enough to fit over the tunze intake.

    just brainstorming.

I like that idea. Thanks. I've got a bunch of pumps laying around, I'll see what I have.

The strainer that comes with it is pretty huge! Do you have the one that is like, 6 inches long? And critters are still getting stuck? :) Please post any mods you make, you know, so I can copy them! ;)
