My 55g tank has cloudy green water. About 3 weeks ago i noticed a green discolouration with the water. I decided to a 25 % water change, on top of my regular changes, and in about 3 days i still noticed the same problems. My nitrate is at 5.0, all other test are good. I went to the store and they said i had a problem with light UV, and to cover my fish tank for 10 days with no light. This is day two. Any thoughts on if this is the best way. Hope to here from someone soon thanks. I feed them blood worms, brine shrimp, sea weed. my lights are on a timer of 12 light and 12 dark.
    -30 lb live rock
-Yellow Tang, Royal Gramma, Bar Goby, Azure Damzel2, clown2, sleeper fish.
    -aqua clear 50g
    -Biowheel filter 75g
    - 4ft aquarium light

That happened to me once and the reason for it was someone had cleaned the aquaruim glass with windex or something similar. I had to buy a UV filter and in about 3-4 days it cleared up. I hope this helps, Luna

I don't think your bio wheel would be causing it. you do have a lot of fish for a 55 gal.. may be caused by fish overload. Cut back feedings to 3 days a week and see if that helps. It should. Do you use carbon? Do you have snails and/or crabs? Also, what kind of water do you use for top offs and changes? ro/di, ro, or tap water?

You have a water quality problem

    HI,
You need to rinse your filter pads more frequently, you need to feed less, measure your phos, has you tank cycled , you may need a sump with a skimmer.
There's a ton of reasons for blooms, most likly theres a phos problem.
exporting phos is a pain and difficult with out a reforguim, skimmer , and maybe some phos media.
Other wise you will have bloom cycles that re-occur.
