So last night while replacing the filter pad in one of my tanks, I gazed into the wet/dry and saw a fuge. Pretty soon the DIY part of my brain started to fire up and I went and gathered some stuff to help me with my impulse project. Now I still need to make one, if not two better designed fuges for both tanks. Until now I'm going to observe this and see how it goes.

the wet/dry (I had already removed the skimmer and the top of drain pipe side at this point)

My two mangroves don't look so well, with all the moving around that I have done with them in both tanks, different locations etc, I have managed to knock the leaves off of them. Both have new leaves sprouting so hopefully in their new home they can heal.

I like the tub in the bottom so you can remove the sand if you wanted to with no problems. Great Idea

Thanks for the comments, I feel pretty good about it considering it was an impulse build and it took less than an hour to do. Had to mod the corners of the tupperware thing so it would fit, other then that it went well. I plan on hard plumbing the drain pipe this weekend because the way it dumps in the bottom is kinda ghetto...

What a transformation! Yes....the tuberware inside the W/D is a great idea, at least when it comes to cleaning. I was wondering something, what was your No3 before the change and what is it in about 3-4 after. Great job on the change. Luna

Well the No3 was high when I did this last night, hence the thought to change the filter pad which was very dirty. I was concerned about doing this because my nitrates were already high and here I am adding sand and starting a mini cycle... but I went for it anyway!

It was 20ppm last night, I went to bed so I didn't check 3-4hrs later.

I tested it just now, which is 17hrs later and it's also 20ppm.

Hopefully the mini cycle, if it has one, stays mini!

there shouldn't be a mini cycle at all. Adding new sand isn't going to do that. Was it dry sand or live??? I think it's going to be ok. Nice work btw.

It was dry sand, I was hoping that since it was dry there would be no or little die off (since there was nothing to die), right?

Im sorry.....I meant 3-4 weeks from now. BTW....20ppm is not high. I had that for a long time with no issues. I'm just curious b/c I want to see if by removing the BB's, will the No3 go down. Like I said, I had 20ppm for the longest time, but 3-4 weeks after I changed out W/D, my No3 went to zero and has been that way ever since. Keep me/us posted on your No3 levels. Thanks
