We have a six year old airdale. Out of the blue my wife thinks we should get him a friend. I dont think she understands how much work it is to have a puppy. Should I cave and let her get it?

A puppy is nothing to take lightly. Make sure you do your research on the breed you want, make sure you have the time, space and $$$ to house one because his/her life will be in you hands as soon as the pup comes home.

Why a puppy? Why not a 2-3 year old rescue perhaps? Puppies are A LOT of work, and sometimes older dogs don't take well to puppies. I just recently got another puppy, and have since found more gray hairs.

Let her get it? I'd already have 10 bought if I heard my husband say such a thing.

There are puppies at the shelter as well. Albeit, they are a lot of work, but they aren't THAT hard or they wouldn't be one of the most popular family pets.

Just consider if you have the time to train and the tempermant of your current dog.

I would get a bit older of a dog, puppies arent always tolerated well by adult dogs plus you can miss a lot of the potty training and teething I think those are the worst!

What if she said you couldn't have your fish tank......? That's what I thought.... Let her have the pup.

Agreed, let her have the puppy. While I love my fish tanks, I LOVE my bassett hound Charles WAY more. :)

I don't know if these are necessarily the same. I don't have to walk or potty train my tank. Nor do the fish chew up my shoes/socks and everything else. Fish don't pee on the carpet either.

But we're not talking about a child who wants a puppy... it's a full grown adult.

No but the money you spend on the tank is nothing compared to buying some socks or shoes that was chewed up...... ;D

Come on......let her full fill the mother need in her. ;)
